“One day some years ago, I was very much impressed with a statement of Paul. It came out of the Bible to me like letters of living fire:

“For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”

“I saw the word “must” and I said, “This is a mandate from heaven. God is impressing this upon me in this hour. I do not know why.”

“And so I asked my secretary to type it on a piece of paper. I taped it onto my mirror, and every day I would read those words.

“The weeks and the months passed, and about six months later I went through the experience of observing the transition of my husband, Mark Prophet, the founder of The Summit Lighthouse and our first Messenger.

“I went through the experience of him being taken from me suddenly, in a moment. And as I tarried with him through the weekend in the hours of his transition, I observed his resurrection, and at the conclusion of three days, in the morning, I saw him ascend.*

“I did not see him ascend with my physical eyes, but I saw him with my inner eye. I stood next to him as Elisha stood next to Elijah, and I was able to see him and commune with him and realize that he was taken up in consciousness, in the acceleration into the permanent Being of God.

“I felt the most magnificent joy and exhilaration, and I was filled with the Light of that experience. I came home and I gave my witness of that experience to our children and to our staff.

“And when I returned to my room, I noticed on the mirror the words that were there, which had been burning in my soul those months.

“As I read them again, “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality,” I realized that the call of the ascension is not a choice. It is the demand of the very Life that is in us. It is the demand of the fire in our hearts.

And at a certain moment—we know not when it will be—we see our loved ones and fellow disciples on the Path, and suddenly God calls them and takes them by the hand, and we see them going up in that whirling action of the sacred fire.

Ascension – A Mandate of Cosmos

I had the gentle comfort then in my heart that this truly was the plan of God, as Mark had told me that plan ten years before. I knew that it was the mandate of the cosmos that this soul ascend.

“I knew it even as I had known when I was just a teenager and I stood on the front steps of a church that it was also true for me. No one had ever given me any teachings on my personal ascension, but as I came out of that church one day, I felt a presence around me. I looked up, and I could see the light of the sun and even a greater Light. And I exclaimed out loud, “Why, I have to make my ascension in this life.” From that moment I knew that I must return to God.

“It is a teaching that no one had to teach me and no one has to teach you. You know it in your soul, because God has placed that mandate there—the same mandate that has carried all of the saints who have already returned to the heart of God.

“This corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”

“May these words also become letters of living fire for you—and perhaps a statement that you place somewhere you will see it each day.

“When you realize that you must put on immortality, that you must put on incorruption, it becomes the impetus for your daily working of the works of God—steadfast and unmovable.”

* Mark Prophet suffered a sudden massive stroke early on a Saturday morning. He was taken to the hospital and continued on life support for two more days, never regaining consciousness. He ascended on Monday, February 26, 1973, and is now known as the Ascended Master Lanello.
